A local resident was approached by a 'Man in a Van' recently, offering to cut
his hedge. When the resident said no thanks, the man spotted some bagged
up rubbish and offered to dispose of it for the resident for £5.
Thinking this would save the resident the bother of a trip or two to the
waste site, he readily agreed.
It was only when he was interviewed by Babergh that it became apparent
the 'man in the van' dumped the rubbish along the way-side (but kept a
couple of bits for himself).
The resident felt ashamed and foolish for allowing this flytipping (illegal dumping) to happen.
Apparently there have been
several similar incidents in the past few
months.
Babergh's advice is to say no to anyone who offers this service, or
check them out by looking them up on the Environment agency's public registers page where
members of the public can search to check if a business is registered as
a waste carrier. Alternatively call 08708 506506.
It would be very useful for any registration numbers taken in relation
to people offering this service to be passed to Babergh (Waste
Management) or Sally Watson, Anti-Social Behaviour Network Officer at
Sudbury Police Station (01284 774303).
Thank you. |
