It is confirmed that King Edward VII Drive would be closed from 1 October to 28 February [during working hours] for reasons of safety during development works. An alternative route would be signed. Vehicular traffic to use Caledonia Road for access to Marina. |
|
| 16 Aug |
The Parish Council hear that, during the forthcoming replacement of King Edward VII Drive, the Marina were intending to provide alternative vehicular access via School Lane / Battery Lane, and had already erected Helas fencing through the Ganges site. A number of residents, particulalry of the Old School House, object to this. The Council felt that neither road was suitable for any sustained amount of traffic and a suitable alternative must be found.
Works are expected to commence in October 2007 and last for 6 months. |

Shotley Parish Council has had initial discussions with the Marina on the County Council's proposals for new signing and lining from Bristol Hill to Shotley Marina. |

| 19 Apr 2007 |
It was confirmed at the Parish Council meeting that the cancellation letter received by some residents re the marina developments was in error by Babergh. There had been a slight revision to the Marina access road application, to reduce the width of the footpath from 3m to 2.5m for the first 45m run from the boatyard. This will enable the cantilever of the footpath to be reduced as required by the structural engineers. |

Babergh's Development Committee
approved the application by the Marina to rescind the planning obligations and gave them the green light to go ahead and start the 70 homes. The one concession was that the improved KEVII Drive will have to be completed before the construction or before the first occupation (officer's discretion).
More information soon. |

The Marina applications are withdrawn from the Babergh Development Committee agenda. Now likely to go forward to the July meeting. |

The public expressed their concerns about the road applications at the 15 June Parish Council meeting, mainly about traffic in Bristol Hill. Following a long debate the PC voted to oppose the application to lift the conditions which, if so lifted would enable the construction of up 70 properties at the Marina using Bristol Hill and King Edward VII drive as access. The PC had a speaking slot at Babergh Development Committee's meeting to consider the applications on 21 June. |

Shotley Marina have resubmitted their applications for upgrading Queen Victoria and King Edward VII Drives, and lifting conditions which would enable the construction of up 150 properties at the Marina. The Council opposed the lifting of the conditions until the number of dwellings can be formerly clarified <more> |

|
| 27 Apr |
The Parish Council, at the special meeting (see below), resolved to oppose the lifting of the conditions, but to support the two applications for the road subject to certain provisons. In general terms, these were to ensure:
- sufficient traffic calming along KEVII Drive and Bristol Hill
- an archaeological investigation
- impact assessment on ecology and erosion
- provision for cyclists
This reflects the Council's complex, tricky job. The proposals are very high quality, would bring clear benefits to much of the community, but would also directly affect the quality of life for people in Bristol Hill (some such residents spoke against the application at the meeting). However, a large contingent of the community at the previous council meeting, were overwhelmingly in favour of the proposals. The formal minutes of the meeting will be posted here when agreed, plus news from Babergh District Council. |

2 To discuss planning application B/06/00607/FUL/CLD Improvements to King Edward VII Drive to include 6m wide carriageway, 3m wide promenade, retaining wall and 3 No cantilevered viewing platforms. Erection of mast and lifebuoy station. Road plan | viewing platform
3 To discuss planning application B/06/00608/FUL/CLD Improvements to King Edward VII Drive to include 6m wide carriageway, 3m wide cantilevered promenade, retaining wall and 3 No cantilevered viewing platforms. Erection of mast and lifebuoy station. Road plan | viewing platform
All by: Shotley Marina Ltd, King Edward Drive, Shotley Gate, IP9 1QJ. (Note that these are revised applications since the presentation to the Parish Council on 16 March. Higher quality copies of the plans are available on request)
Put simply the first application relates to the planning permission for 150 houses to be built around The Marina basin and releases the owners of The Marina from the obligation to build a roundabout and new access road from the B1456 across the Ganges site and into the proposed development. The second two applications would if granted allow access to the proposed development to be via Bristol Hill and an improved road along the sea wall.
If you cannot make the meeting but would like to comment on the proposal send a mail to us at info@myshotley.com and we will make sure the Parish Council and Babergh District Council are aware of your views. |

Shotley Marina Ltd today presented to Shotley Parish Council and about 40 assembled members of the public, their proposals to change King Edward VII Drive in Shotley Gate. This will improve safety and access to the marina, by widening the road to six metres, adding a 3m wide promenade, with 3 viewing platforms. Planning permission has yet to be sought. If gained, this would enable 70 of the 150 houses on the marina site to be built. The plans are available to download here, as pdf files. road plan (115K)| viewing platform (108K).
