Road improvements, King Edward VII Drive, Shotley Gate

Shotley Marina are to improve access and upgrade the highway from the Bristol Arms towards the Marina itself. This has been agreed by Suffolk County Council and was discussed with Shotley Parish Council on 15 December 2005.

Work is to start on 27 February 2006, taking four/five weeks, to be ready for the start of the sailing season i.e. April. Construction would be to a standard acceptable to SCC for future adoption. It is also required before work can commence on the building of 9 residential and employment units on the boatyard site.

You can view detailed drawings below. The improvements include marked parking spaces (31, including three disabled spaces) and a bus turning area, which would have no waiting signs. The area between the bus-turn and the car parking area would be surfaced with random random paving and the Council have been asked for suggestions on who or what a new seat there could commemorate. Do you have any ideas?

A footway would run along the entire length of the road, up to the end of the pier. A raised table outside the sailing club would act as a traffic calming measure and pedestrian crossing. Six street lamps would be installed.
