Bus stop in Shotley

BRING BACK OUR BUSES - KEEP US SAFE

Shotley Parish Council have described the cuts to their Christmas and New Year bus services as "crazy and irresponsible".

Ipswich Buses which run the services to the Shotley Peninsula have announced that there will be no services on Christmas and New Years Eve after 7.00pm.

Reacting to the announcement Linda Rowlands, Clerk to the Parish Council, said "On these two nights more than any other we should be doing all we can to get cars off the roads and assist people, some potentially vulnerable, home safely. We would like Ipswich buses to act in a responsible manner and reinstate the service.

Many of our residents work and socialise in Ipswich and will now have to wait for taxis to be available or rely on family and friends to make unnecessary journeys to get home.

Ipswich is the social centre for the area, the decision to deny public transport does nothing to encourage people into Ipswich nor does it support Suffolk Constabulary's drink drive campaign, a safe alternative transport option has been removed - without consultation."
