Update 27 January 2009

Notification of works:

Costain Ltd has began the assembly of its equipment to be used for the piling operation that will begin this week on the Felixstowe South Reconfiguration project.

There will be two different techniques used to drive the 45 tones, 40m length piles. One is to use a vibratory (vibro) hammer and the other is a percussive hammer that will only be used when the vibro hammer is not effective, i.e. driving through the clay and chalk layers of the subsoil.

It is important to note that there are strict restrictions enforced around the working hours for the piling operation. The timing of the percussive piling will be restricted to 08:00 and 18:00hrs Mon-Fri and 08:00 – 13:00hrs Sat. No piling will take place on Sunday or Bank holidays. An independent specialist will closely monitor noise levels and the results will be shared with the local Environmental Protection team at Suffolk Coastal District Council.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding the works please feel free to contact the project Community Liaison Manager James York.
