Shotley Parish Council meeting, 21 Sep 2006

This is a very brief summary of just some of the key points from the Shotley Parish Council meeting, held on 21 September 2006. More details will be in the minutes (available following the October meeting) or by contacting the Clerk: parishclerk@myshotley.com, 01473 788248.

  • Graffiti at the Kingsland playground has been removed.
  • The two metal gates to the playground in Shotley Gate have been ripped off by vandals. The Clerk thanked those who had reported it to her, and is arranging repair / reinstatement. Broken chainlink fencing is also to be repaired.
  • The brambles etc around the edges of the tennis courts have been removed again, and sprayed with strong herbicide. We are exploring the best ways to improve the tennis court and play area fencing
  • ROSPA are to inspect the play areas shortly.
  • The Parish Plan Implementation Board had met the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce who want to undertake research about local education needs.
  • The council decided to replace the several noticeboards around the Parish due to their poor state, and we are looking at suitable sites for 2 further noticeboards as recomended by the Parish Plan. Details next month.
  • The allotments at Coopers Close near the Church are to be reviewed and vacancies advertised.
  • Nominations were invited for the Babergh Community Achievement Awards. Do you know someone who should be recognised for their outstanding contribution to our community? Contact the Parish Clerk (parishclerk@myshotley.com, tel 788248).
  • The Council reviewed their progress on further improving communications. Since June the Directory had been delivered to every home; five editions of this Digest had been published; a complaints procedure had been setup, and more press coverage achieved. The next priorities included establishing a public information point and publishing a leaflet.
  • The aims and objectives of the Council were agreed.
  • News on the future of the HMS Ganges site - the Council had met Suffolk Preservation Society about their ideas for a community led planning brief for the site. Meanwhile, Haylink had contacted the council and will be making a decision on their next step very shortly (this will be reported on MyShotley.com)
  • Discussion about a better way of maintaining the parish council's grounds will be continued at the next meeting.
  • A new bin had been installed near the bus stop at Kitchener Way.
  • The timing has been fixed on the warning lights outside the school.
  • Amongst the planning applications considered, the removal of a pine tree in Great Harlings was narrowly supported in a vote. In another tight vote, it was agreed to object to a vehicle access in Gayford Terrace. The applications at 15 Garden Close, 6 Gate Farm Road and 10 Kitchener Way had been approved by Babergh District Council.
  • The period during which the accounts were available for the public to view has now ended, with no one taking up the opportunity.
  • Two councillors had toured the household recycling plant at Great Blakenham. Full report here soon!
  • MyShotley.com's future development moved a step forward with the Steering Group wanting your ideas on what enhancements were needed.
  • Next meeting of the Parish Council: 19 October 2006 at 7.15pm in the Village Hall. All welcome.
