- A representative from Ipswich Buses, Mr Dean Robbie attended the meeting and answered questions on the timetabling of the 98 and 202 bus services. The issue concerning the 7.23am service, which students attending Colchester College used, had been resolved and a new timetable issued late October. He was apprised of passengers experiencing problems with the withdrawal of the 9am and midnight (Fri/Sat) services and would look the feasibility of reinstating these.
- No objections were raised to the planning application for the erection of a two storey detached dwelling in the side garden of 6 Hervey Terrace, Shotley Gate.
- Babergh had approved planning applications for: April Rose, 46 Ganges Road, Shotley Gate (Erection of a rear conservatory); Part side garden of 29 Lower Harlings, Shotley Gate (Erection of 2 No. 1 storey dwellings with single garages and construction of new vehicular access); Cockle Creek Cottage, Rose Farm Lane, Shotley (Erection of single-storey and two storey extensions) and 15 Garden Close, Shotley (Erection of front conservatory and erection of lean-to roof to existing rear elevation).
- It was advised that the revised Environmental Statement re the HMS Ganges Reserved Matters relating to the 404 Retirement Homes application would not go before Babergh's Planning Committee until January 2009.
- Babergh's Conservation Architect had again been contacted re the deterioration of the HMS Ganges Mast. He advised that the developers were to be given another six months to effect repair before a site visit would be requested. Councillors were very disappointed with this view, especially as parts of the mast were seen to be disintegrating over a year ago. It was felt that the deadline suggested be brought forward substantially in order to survey the mast and force the developers into some positive action.
- The Responsible Finance Officer reported that quarterly finance meetings would be held in line with the external auditors requirements.
- Babergh's Open Spaces Manager had reported that the Environment Agency did not have a strategy in place at the present time in respect of the deterioration of our local coastline - more particularly the Stour River footpath. It was felt therefore that a working party be formed made up of interested parties in order to try to stem the deterioration and improve this valuable resource.
