- Cllr Steel reported on Babergh Council Development Committee's decision to give Shotley Marina the go ahead to build 70 houses at the marina (and improve King Edward VII Drive). He referred to his statement to the Committee. <more>
- There was more disappointment at the closure of the public toilets in Bristol Hill (except disabled). [see latest news 22 Jun 06]
- County Cllr Dave Woods reported that a new Suffolk Safeguarding Children's Board had been setup; budget pressures were affecting social care services but there was no threat to Oak House in Stutton; the proposed police amalgamation seems to have been shelved; and that he is speaking to Highways regarding complaints he has received about car parking at the Bristol Arms.
- In PC Chris Garrod's report, the public were warned against purchasing anything from door to door traders without a licence or if in any doubt. There were 11 reported crimes in the Parish during June.
- Three planning applications were considered - 51 Kitchener Way and 1 Diamond Cottages were supported, but the Council voted to recommend refusal to the application at 10 Kitchener Way.
- Following an approach from a parishioner, the Clerk reported that the Council had no powers to issue notices to residents with untidy gardens. She did however issue advice about who to contact with specific problems.
- The accounts to year ended 31 March 2006 were approved for audit. Finance Officer Dina gave her very interesting annual statement of accounts. The Council thanked Dina for an excellent report and improving the PC's understanding of the financial position.
- The new play area benches had arrived but not yet installed.
- A member of the public reported that night time activities at the play area in Shotley Gate was causing problems for local residents. He was assured that the police are aware, but that anything suspicious could be reported to them on 01473 613500.
- It was reported that the Shotley Youth & Community Project had succeeded in their bid for £7,000 from the Local Network Fund to setup an after school youth drop in once a week at the village hall for 11-16 year olds, hopefully starting in September.
- Relating to the Communication Strategy the Council agreed a new complaints procedure.
- A draft Aims and Objectives was introduced, for comment before the next meeting.
- Mention was made of the summer fun activities sessions for Shotley kids
- New dog bins had been installed at Tudor Close and Marsh Lane.
- The Shotley Business and Information Directory has now been published and delivered to every property in the village.
- More administration was dealt with, including the previous meeting minutes
