- There were no police officers present, but the recent burglaries at Shotley Marina & the Primary School were noted.
- A Safer Neighbourhood Team community consultation meeting had been held at Shotley school recently, which several councillors and the Clerk attended. It was seen as a step forward in working with the police on making Shotley safer.
- The Parish Council agreed
to accept an offer from the SNT to have an informal meeting with as many agencies as possible in order to progress solutions to Shotley's anti social behaviour problems.
- The Parish Council will participate in Beachwatch on 15 September, in combination with a more general follow up to the Shotley spring clean around the villages. Local organisations, particularly the sailing club, viking forest project and school, will be invited to get involved.
- A programme of summer activities for young people in Shotley has been confirmed. These are organised by Babergh together with the Shotley Youth & Community Project. The main events include multisports at the village hall on 3 and 13 August, and also at Lloyds Road playing field on 31 August including a skate park. Full details here
- Parish Councillors had met the HMS Ganges developers (Haylink & Galliard Homes) and architects and had a tour on site recently. A letter has subsequently been written to them about the future of the swimming pool and other issues raised.
- The developers have announced an exhibition weekend, 10-11 August, on site, to enable comments from the public on their new draft proposals. Members of the Parish Council will also be in attendance.
- There was no outcome yet of the Certificate of Lawful Development re the Ganges site. A response was agreed to the scoping report.
- Part-funding has been released for the planned improvements to the village hall.
- Following proposals to review grounds maintenance in the parish, a group of councillors together with the Clerk and RFO had recommended employing a community warden who would undertake litter picking, inspections, repairs and aiding community communications, whilst grass cutting and gardening matters would be contracted out. The group will report to the September meeting on costings etc.
- The Clerk reported that the County Council had been quoted £20,000 for the repair of the breached River Stour Path. They are hoping to obtain part funding from other sources. The clerk had expressed concern at the delay and requested a diversion be signed.
- County Councillor David Wood reported back from a meeting about the moving of local bus stops. It was clear that the moves were due to change of policy at BT, stopping the use of their poles.
- The PC had no objection to the application for lawfulness of existing use on land to the west of of Shotley Church, to use of the track as vehicular access.
- A parishioner had complained about dog mess being frequently thrown over the hedge from a property in Orwell View Road. The Parish Council took this very seriously, and Babergh are handling.
