| This is a very brief summary of the key points from the meeting of Shotley Parish Council, held on 18 September 2008. More details will be in the minutes or by contacting the Clerk: 01473 788248, parishclerk@myshotley.com |

- On a very rainy day, the Suffolk Unpaid Work Team removed the overgrown hedge at East View Terrace in order to improve the sight line for both pedestrians and motorists - I expect the rather inclement weather had something to do with the speed at which they completed their task - for which many thanks.
- Thanks also to (1) our own Community Warden who made short work of the remaining stumps which were subsequently donated to a local resident and (2) a kind local farmer (you know who you are) who agreed to the waste material being placed on his land pending disposal.
- Although no SNT representative was able to attend the meeting, it was noted that interested parties had met at the Bristol Arms on 22 August in order to discuss ways of dealing with anti-social behaviour and a public meeting of the Safer Neighbourhood Team was held on Monday 8 September, 7.30pm at The Shipwreck to discuss any issues residents were concerned about - approximately 40 residents attended.
- The lower yardarm on the mast at HMS Ganges had fallen off. This had been reported to the developer and Babergh and it was hoped that some action would now be taken to safeguard this valuable monument.
- Babergh had received the Environment Statement back from the developers regarding the HMS Ganges Reserved Matters - 404 Retirement Homes along with amended plans - This would be on the October agenda for discussion
- The Community Warden is organising and Councillors and various other interested folk will be participating in Beachwatch again this year - posters advertising the event were already in place and equipment/encouragement would be available to any willing volunteers on 20 September 10-12 at the bottom of Bristol Hill
- A reply had been received from SCC Highways regarding the issue of an extra lay-by at Kingsland PO and a new lay-by opposite East View Terrace which advised that due to budgetary constraints, our requests had been noted and would be looked at again in the next financial year.
- Further negotiations with Babergh regarding an off road parking area by the bus stop opposite the Kingsland PO were ongoing.
- Planning issues - It was noted that Babergh had approved the retention of a detached summer house at 1 Charity Farm Cottages. It was resolved by the SPC to oppose an application to extend a disabled parking bay in Lower Harlings as it was felt sufficient space was already afforded by the existing bay; and to support the construction of an irrigation reservoir at land north of Upper Lodge, Wades Lane
- Grants were made to Shotley CP School and to Kidzone
- The Council's response to the Boundary Committee's Draft Proposals for Local Government in Suffolk were again discussed at length and finalised <response letter> | <background and links>
- It was noted that the notice board belonging to Suffolk Coasts and Heaths at the bottom of Bristol Hill had been demolished along with a section of sea wall and two bollards by a car which had lost its brakes and hurtled out of control. It was unlikely the notice board would be replaced until the New Year due to staff shortages at SC&H.
- The BBC One Show was due to visit Shotley in order to “do a piece” on The Erwarton and Shotley Good Neighbours sometime next week at the Bristol Arms.
