Shotley Parish Council meeting, 18 Jan 2007

This is a very brief summary of just some of the key points from the Shotley Parish Council meeting, held on 18 January 2007. More details will be in the minutes or by contacting the Clerk: parishclerk@myshotley.com, 01473 788248.

  • The Parish Council agreed to grant £700 towards the East of England Ambulance NHS Trust setting up a community first responder scheme in Shotley. This followed a talk from the Trust at the previous meeting, and active enthusiasm from some members of the community.
  • News was awaited from the Babergh East Local Strategic Partnership's consideration of the bid to use our grant funds to upgrade the tennis courts in Shotley Gate <more>
  • The Parish Plan Implementation Board had proposed to work together with the village hall management committee to lever funds to invest in the building's facilities, particularly for the Youth Club.
  • Following the recent meeting with the developers of the HMS Ganges site, the Parish Council has responded to Haylink. Amongst the points raised, the Council felt that Haylink's proposed consultation timetable was thin on detail and too short for the community to be properly involved.
  • General repairs are to be carried out to the play areas over the coming two months.
  • Councillors thanked Dina Bedwell for her hard work relating to the completion of the external audit of five previous sets of accounts. Finance report
  • The council discussed ways of attracting residents to put themselves forward as parish councillors, in the light of the new Government citizen governance report and forthcoming parish council elections (on 3 May 2007). It was agreed to do some local publicity to alleviate misconceptions, and cllrs would encourage people individually. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact the Parish Clerk.
  • Details of the rationalisation of local rights of way are close to completion. It was agreed to obtain and publish a map for residents (to be available on MyShotley.com).
  • The Village Hall Management Committee's AGM is to be held on 28 February - all hall users welcome.
  • There was a complaint about vandalism in Lloyd Road, and the police response time would be raised with them.
  • Several complaints had been received about the reliability of the new bus service operated by Gemini / Far East Travel. The PC took this seriously, and decided to write to the operator immediately <more>
  • Two councillors reported back from a Haven Gateway Ipswich / A14 Corridor Study stakeholder event. A long list of potential transport-related measures were being assessed in order to identify a “short list” to be taken forward. A written response is being submitted.
  • The Clerk reported that the mobile library wants to use the village hall car park from next summer; that part of an existing roadway surface has been cleared at Gayford Terrace to enable parking on driveways; that Bull Field has five or six half allotment plots available for letting; and that some allotment users were not following the rules.
  • Next meeting of the Parish Council: 8 February 2007 at 7.15pm in the Village Hall. All welcome.
  • See Digest of previous meeting.
