- New Councillor: the Council welcomed Graham Brown as the newest co-opted Councillor and looked forward to working with him.
- SNT report - PC Garrod reported that there had been seven crimes in Shotley from 30 May to 30 June – this was a decrease of 42% over the same period last year; an additional officer (PC Gary Austin) would be covering the Peninsula from 21 July.
- Breached Stour path repair - The final contribution towards the repair had been received from SCC Rights of Way (£4000). Thanks were expressed by the SPC. A meeting with Babergh and SPC Councillors had been arranged for 22 July in order to look at a long-term solution for the erosion of the Stour River Path.
- The Community Warden reported that there was less beer can and bottle litter and that litter generally was down although dog “litter” was up as irresponsible owners were allowing their pets to foul in public places more so recently than usual.
- Extra parking at Kingsland PO - Replies had been received from SCC and BDC and a site meeting is to be arranged to progress this matter
- Ganges update. See Noticeboard article.
- Planning – It was noted that Babergh had approved the application for Mountain Ash, The Street for the erection of a first-floor rear extension including new dormer
- Unitary local government in Suffolk – The Boundary Committee's Draft Proposals were discussed at length and it was agreed that SPC's preliminary view was that it was in favour of the proposal for a two unitary council structure for Suffolk:
- a new unitary for South East Suffolk taking in Felixstowe, Kesgrave, Martlesham, Ipswich, the Shotley peninsula and other surrounding parishes – although in addition to the BC's proposals, we would like to see an expanded western boundary to encompass Hadleigh so as to balance out the “rural” and “urban” population; and
- a second unitary to include all other areas of Suffolk , except for Lowestoft which is to become part of a unitary council structure for Norfolk .
- A meeting is to be arranged to consult with Shotley residents on the Boundary Committee options
- Buses: It was noted that Far East Travel were to discontinue the 97H service from mid-August and that despite them having voluntarily entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, had not seen fit to inform the Council of this fact. The Council understood that negotiations were in hand to engage the services of another bus operator so as to ensure an uninterrupted service.
