This is a very brief summary of the key points from the meeting of Shotley Parish Council, held on 17 April 2008. More details will be in the minutes or by contacting the Clerk: 01473 788248, parishclerk@myshotley.com,

  • The new Community Warden, Matt, gave a full report about the play areas etc. He gained agreement to paint the wall near the Lloyd Road play area and allowing it to be used for graffiti as requested by young people.
  • Matt had taken the initiative to install nets on the goals in the same play area, which were getting lots of use!
  • The spring clean Shotley event held on 5 April was very successful. 12 bags were filled, including a large quantity collected from the beach appearing to have been generated by the burger van plus many plastic bottles.
  • SCC Cllr David Wood confirmed from his investigations that the only safety measures able to be implemented at the point where school children cross the main road in Shotley Gate towards school, is a 'pedestrians crossing' sign. This will be installed shortly.
  • The Council were disappointed to hear that SCC will not be taking any action other than to replace the footpath sign, after it and an area of trees at the end of Stourside were removed without permission.
  • A meeting had been held with BDC re potential additional parking at the junction of Kingsland. To be discussed further.
  • The Responsible Finance Officer presented the accounts for 2007/08, which were all in order. Finance report
  • BDC have advised that since a new contractor started, the dog bins collection is now Fridays and using a different coloured bin liner each week.
  • Invitations have gone to all local organisations for the Annual Parish Meeting on 22 May.
  • The new Emergency Planning Working Party recommend that SPC goes ahead with a draft plan as outlined which is proportionate to the needs of the community.
  • It was agreed to purchase a data projector and large screen, to assist in providing information at meetings, and to help with communications within the parish generally.
  • Stour path breach: work had now been delayed until the end of May, awaiting delivery of steel and then favourable tides.
  • The next meeting was the Annual Parish Council meeting on Thursday 15 May in the large committee room, Shotley Village Hall.
