- Police Community Support Officer Trish Gibson confirmed that she would be on duty for both Halloween and Fireworks Day and that she had asked local shops not to sell flour and eggs to children in the preceding days; the SNT meeting in Holbrook on 8 October was well attended with the next SNT meeting schedule for January - venue and date to be advised; the alcohol tagging scheme was very quiet locally and it was reported that Ipswich was considering using our model; householders complaining re noise nuisance caused by scooters would be visited and asked if they wished to make a statement.
- The Shotley Community Emergency Plan (SCEP) was nearing completion and the Parish Council agreed to grant £250 to help pay for an “Emergency Box” and contents. A further meeting was to be arranged for November.
- A request was made for a representative from Ipswich Buses to attend the next meeting to answer questions from parishioners/councillors.
- The Community Warden reported that litter was down and more widely spread; no beer cans/bottles were found this month although more high energy drinks cans were evident; he had repositioned the bollard at the bottom of Bristol Hill and the concrete wall will be repaired; the graffiti wall had been repainted twice recently due to the nature of the graffiti; the central fence post in the tennis court had been bent down and will be cut out at the base, or removed and a repair made to the tarmac;
the play parks are in constant use and a replacement child swing in Ganges play park is still needed; hedges from Tudor Close to the main road have been trimmed back and the path is now usable; and the Shotley school path has been trimmed back.
- It had been reported previously that the Lower Harlings street sign was damaged and Clerk to arrange for BDC to repair;
- A draft response to the Developer's Environmental Statement re the HMS Ganges Reserved Matters relating to the 404 Retirement Homes application had been circulated prior to the meeting and it was agreed to finalise the draft at the extra planning meeting to be held on 29 October.
- The HMS Ganges Mast was again discussed - more mast repairers' details had been passed on to the developers in late September who had advised that a repairer was due to visit the site in early October. Babergh's Conservation Architect had been contacted re a promised site visit - no progress advised to SPC to date.
- No objections were raised to the planning applications for: April Rose, 46 Ganges Road (Erection of rear conservatory); Cockle Creek Cottage, Rose Farm Lane (Erection of single-storey and two storey extensions); 15 Garden Close, Shotley (Erection of front conservatory and erection of lean-to to existing rear elevation); and 59 The Street, Shotley (Erection of pitched roof over existing rear flat roof and erection of rear first floor extension).
- Wendy Sadler was nominated for the 2009 Babergh Community Achievements Awards for her work throughout the village.
