- Members of the public attended to complain about buses using Kingsland. The council had already written to Gemini expressing concern about their route now being through several housing estates, following several complaints. It was now decided to invite a representative to the next meeting (20 December). People are advised to be specific and collect evidence of any bus problem.
- Tricia Gibson, our local Police Community Support Officer, said that the number of reported incidents of anti social behaviour has dropped, although there were problems at halloween. Parishioners are reminded to report incidents (see www.MyShotley.com.police.html).
- Two opportunities for local people to meet her and colleagues were coming up - the StreetMeet at the village hall on Tuesday 27 November, 2-7pm, and the Safer Neighbourhood Team public meeting on 28 November, 7pm, Shotley School.
- District Councillor Roberts' will report back on progress with his idea to establish a charity for older needy people in the parish.
- Following the special planning meeting in the school hall on 30 October, at which nearly 40 local people attended, the Parish Council wrote to Babergh District Council objecting to the current Haylink Reserved Matters application for a retirement development on the former HMS Ganges site. - Babergh has granted
Haylink's application for a 'Certificate of Lawful Use'
regarding the HMS Ganges site. This means that the site could now be used for residential training purposes without further planning permission. The Parish Council are surprised at this decision, and will be requesting detailed information.
- Due to incidents where vehicles have used the public footpath between Lower Harlings and Baker Road, Suffolk County Council have kindly agreed to the Parish Council's request to install a bollard.
- Breached Stour path and cliff steps - a meeting is being arranged with the SCC Rights of Way officer.
- Crossing point at Main Road Shotley Gate – Cllr Dave Wood advised that a sign was not an option.
- The Council agreed to make a donation to the Royal British Legion, towards the cost of a wreath at the Rembrance Service.
- Planning applications - following discussions the Council had no objection to:
- Demolition of Shotley Lodge and erection of three storey detached block of 8 flats.
- 16 The Street – detached gym and gazebo.
- Applications had been approved by Babergh for a horse arena at Red House Farm, Wades Lane; single-storey side extension, detached garage and outdoor swimming pool at 8 Queensland; and new vehicular access at 15 East View Terrace. The application relating to Hill House Farm was refused. There was partial consent / refusal for removal of trees at 25 Ganges Road.
- Recent speed surveys in Shotley Gate indicated surprisingly that at these two specific points compliance was relatively good.
- The council will consider sharing a community speed gun with other parishes.
- It was reported that His Excellency The Dutch Vice President was to visit the dutch war graves at St Mary's Church, Shotley on 14 December.
- The precept (budget) was agreed for the next financial year.
