This is a very brief summary of the key points from the meeting of Shotley Annual Parish Council, held on 15 May 2008. More details will be in the minutes or by contacting the Clerk: 01473 788248, parishclerk@myshotley.com,

  • Cllr Wrinch was re-elected as Chairman, Cllr Matthews as Vice Chairman. <details of posts>
  • The village's alcohol marking scheme was ready to be launched
  • The 'Looking after Our Environment' poster competition was a great success, and the winning entry would be displayed around the village shortly.
  • Our new Community Warden was making an impact. His goal nets and graffiti wall in Shotley Gate were very popular. He was given the go ahead to arange urgent repairs to play equipment in Kingsland.
  • A meeting had been held to revise the proposed no waiting restrictions on King Edward VII Drive.
  • A new dog litter bin was agreed for Orwell View Road / Garden Close.
  • It was agreed not to object to BT's removal of the phone box in Church Walk.
  • The contractor had confirmed a start date of 27 May for the repair of the Stour path breach. The council agreed not to commission drawings of the whole path from BDC, despite risking losing their financial contribution.
  • The planning application for Waterside, Estuary Road, was debated at length, but it was decided not to comment to BDC.
  • No objection to the application re 2 Kirkton Close.
  • The council decided to object strongly to the application for a new dwelling in the garden of 1 Stourside. This was on the grounds that is too large for the site, too close to neighbouring properties, loss of trees, adverse impact on biodiversity and overdevelopment within the locality and may lead to a precedent being set.
  • The accounts for year ended 31 March 2008 were approved (to be posted here soon).
  • Shotley Lodge: the council had been informed that the Marina would make a contribution to BDC's social housing and open spaces budgets, as part of the planning consent. Demolition would commence soon, with the new flats completed by Christmas. New fencing to screen off the boatyard and Ganges pier would also be installed at the same time
  • The next meeting was the Annual Parish meeting on Thursday 22 May in the main hall, Shotley Village Hall.
