- Safer Neighbourhood Team:
- Twelve crimes had been reported in December with four incidents of criminal damage in one evening.
- One of the other crimes involved abusive and explicit graffiti scrawled on the play equipment at the Ganges play area which took five hours for the Community Warden to remove.
- The Council were dismayed at this serious defacing of its property and did not feel that the community at large should be made to pay and would therefore be seeking to recover all costs from the families concerned.
- External Auditor's recommendations were received and agreed and the Annual Return was approved and accepted by the Council.
- Incidents of flytipping appeared to be on the increase and Babergh urged locals to avoid using unlicensed persons to dispose of their rubbish and to call 01473 826623 (waste management) should any be spotted.
- HMS Ganges:
- The Council's comments on the S106 Heads of Terms re the HMS Ganges Reserved Matters 404 retirement homes application had been forwarded to Babergh who in turn had passed these to the developers - no response had been received as yet
- The IEMA's further report on the developers revised Environmental Statement had been received and Cllr Steel summarised the contents for the Council
- Babergh advised that this application was unlikely go to the development committee before the summer; and SCC Highways were in direct contact with the developer re the Heads of Terms.
- The Council would be writing to Babergh stating that the lack of completeness of the ES was the responsibility of the developer and asking that the application be progressed to development committee without further delay and would be seeking a meeting with SCC Highways re their response to the S106 Heads of Terms.
- Work on the Ganges Mast had not commenced as yet although the developer advised that it should have by now!
- A meeting to form a working party to discuss the way forward re the Stour River Path was to be held on 10 February, 7pm at the Bristol Arms. It was hoped officers from both Suffolk and Babergh Councils would be able to attend. Interested residents were welcome to attend.
- SCC Highways had confirmed that work to alleviate the pooling of water and extending the layby directly outside the Post office at Kingsland would be carried out shortly.
- Babergh were in the process of launching the Shotley Youth Engagement Project and a grant towards venue costs for the Shotley Film Project was agreed.
- Almost all footpaths signs had now been erected in respect of the Shotley Footpath Rationalisation Scheme and all that remained was a nominal amount of “tidying up” which would be carried out once the weather improved.
