Ipswich Buses' reduced service on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve:

  • The last 202 service to leave Ipswich will be at 1830 returning from Shotley at 1910.

October 08

There is a new Monday to Friday timetable from Monday 13 October. Click the link above to view or print it.

The number of buses has decreased again with an hourly service off peak to Shotley and every two hours to Chelmondiston. Most services no longer run as a loop round the Peninsula so there are few through services between Holbrook and Chelmondiston. Additional time has been added to the Route 202 Services. There are no changes to the Sunday Service.

August 08

Gemini is withdrawing from providing the 97 and 98 services. Ipswich Buses are taking over the Monday to Saturday Services from 18 August.

The 97 will become the 202 with a roughly hourly service via Chelmondiston but no running around the Shotley estates. The very late night service on Friday and Saturday nights will not run. The 98 will continue with the same number but run by Ipswich Buses.

There are some subtle changes to the timetable the most notable being on school days when the bus will go into Holbrook High School morning and afternoon on its way from and to Shotley to provide a school bus.

The Sunday services operated by Carters will continue without change using the existing route numbers 97 and 98.

How to complain about your bus service
On the day of the problem (eg a cancellation) or the following working day ring the bus company and let them know. Ask the bus company to tell you why it happened. The bus companies are very willing to refund out of pocket expenses if it is their fault. If it is an SCC supported service (basically Route 98 or the Sunday Service) and the bus company have admitted it is their fault then ring the county council and ask them how to make an official complaint. Be ready with the route number, time of the bus and date and, be prepared to complete an official complaint form.

What do you think of bus services in Shotley?

Changes keep happening as two companies vie for your custom, by adjusting their timetables or, in the case of Far East Travel, diverting into some housing estates (97H).

We want to hear your views of the services, and your experiences. Please email info@myshotley.com and we will pass your views onto the operators concerned (unless you indicate otherwise).

Maybe you want to comment on:

  • the timetable itself <Download it here> [superceded] - how it suits you.
  • reliability
  • the behaviour of drivers
  • whether you see a safety problem caused by the 97H service coming close to children's playgrounds
  • anything else you have concerns about, or want to praise.

Please be as specific as possible.

Hopefully, as a result of your feedback, we can contribute to improving services.

The new Ipswich Buses Route 202 starts on Monday 23 July, operating Monday to Saturday. The new timetable is available here. [superceded]

It is hoped that a low floor bus with wheelchair ramp will be used but can not be guaranteed.  Some bus stopping places might not be suitable in rural areas especially where there is no kerb at the stop.

Additional Far East Travel Buses will commence on the following Monday 30 July and are marked in red on the timetable.  Note that the service on Friday and Saturday night at midnight and its return will be subject to a flat fare.

The Sunday services will continue to be operated by Carters Coaches, and are shown on a separate timetable.

There have also been some changes to the Buzabout Community Transport Services run by Suffolk ACRE.

The Lunchtime Outings did not prove successful and have therefore been withdrawn.

The Supermarket Service is now officially a ‘Door to door service for anyone unable to use Public Transport due to mobility problems, age, frailty etc.'  Suffolk Saver and Explore Cards are not accepted but Babergh District Council Travel Vouchers are accepted in part payment of the fare.  See the new supermarket service poster. Better still, support your local businesses and shop in Shotley where possible!

26 May 2007

Buzabout has two new developments:

1) A new service for use by anybody to four supermarkets in the Ipswich Area.  All the details are on the poster but please note that Suffolk Saver and Explore cards cannot be accepted. The service is door to door and open for anybody to use.

2) A series of lunchtime excursions for registered Dial-a-Ride users i.e. those in receipt of benefits or are unable to use public transport – applications forms can be completed when booking. <details>
