Dig out your hats, coats and scarfs ....

There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of east and southeastern England during Friday (tomorrow). Heavy snow showers will give accumulations of 5-10cm on low ground and 15-20cm over hills. Some drifting snow is likely in the strong north to northeasterly wind. This could cause disruption to travel networks. Outdoor events may also be affected by the snow.

Theft of motor Vehicle - Holbrook.

On Wednesday 9th December between 5pm and 5.30pm in Holbrook offenders have stolen a white Leyland Tipper lorry vehicle registration L937 ABJ from the rear of a school.

Were you in the area at the time, did you see anything suspicious? Do you know the name of the offender or offenders? If you have any information please contact Suffolk Police on 01284 774100 quoting reference BU/09/3754.

DOUBLE FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION – STUTTON

Two people who died in a road traffic collision in Stutton on Saturday 5th December, have been named by police.

Officers were contacted by the ambulance service just before 12.40pm, reporting a head-on two-vehicle collision on the B1080 between Brantham and Stutton about half a mile from the junction with the A137.

A blue Ford Focus and a white Audi were involved and the drivers of both vehicles - a woman driving the Focus and a man driving the Audi - were pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman has been named as 24 year old Sarah Lee from Colchester. The man has been identified as Matthew Anderson, also 24, of Holbrook.

A man who was a passenger in the Focus, the only other occupant of either of the vehicles, was taken to Colchester Hospital with what relatively minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision. If you saw the incident or either of the vehicles on the road prior to the crash please call PC Roy Dade at the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Police Headquarters on 01473 613500.

Criminal Damage in Shotley Gate!

Between 9pm Saturday 28th November & 9.40am Sunday 29th November a red Rover 200 parked on Tudor Close, Shotley Gate has had the rear window shattered

Also on Great Harlings, Shotley Gate at around 9.40am Friday 27th November a property has had the draught excluder from the letter box broken off and crumpled paper has been placed into the opening.

Casper De Boer hopes that for safety and accessability reasons Royal mail will consider re-siting the post box outside Netherhall to the corner of main road and Great Harlings.

12 Jun BT PAYPHONES IN SHOTLEY
There are 4 payphones in Shotley. The two in Shotley Gate are on Bristol Hill and in Tudor Close. BT wish to alter these so that they can only operate with debit/credit cards because they have low usage. The Parish Council will provide a consolidated response to this proposal and this must be done by 3 August. If you wish to have a say, please provide your response to the Council through 7 Stourside, Shotley Gate by letter; through any councillor; or via email. The subject will be discussed at the next PC meeting on 16 June. You are welcome to attend. Alternatively, please pass your comments to the Parish Council for collation prior to the 21 July meeting. You may also wish to send your responses direct to BT.

Major works start on Orwell Bridge!

The Highways Agency is warning drivers of the Principal Inspection (PI) for the Orwell Bridge starting on 4 June which is expected to take 4-6 weeks. During this time there will be 24-hour single lane closures in both directions and 40mph speed restriction. <more>

25 May The HMS Ganges Mueum Trustees say that "Our most recent grant is for recording World War II experiences relating to HMS Ganges and the civil population of the area. Accordingly I will be most interested to hear from any family who remembers the conflict and HMS Ganges in particular during that time."

Suffolk County Council today published their report on the Outline Planning Application for the HMS Ganges site. <more>

Officers are recommending that the County does not object to the granting of outline planning permission for 325 houses on the site subject to there being agreement with the developer on various issues.

14 Nov The second Parish Plan Walking Tour, sees 32 people and only one dog enjoy beautiful weather. From the Village Hall, they walked to Erwarton Hall, down to the Stour, along the bank via Rose Farm Cottages and Shotley Marina, arriving back via Gate Farm Road (about 4 miles).
